Indigenous Peoples’ Policy
The tenure of ATCO Wood Products is located in the traditional territories of many First Nations.
In recognition of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and with respect to meeting the Calls to Action of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, ATCO Wood Products is committed to:
Acknowledging the rights and title of Indigenous peoples and the connection they have to their territories;
Respecting First Nations’ Culture by sharing information and consulting with First Nations as we undertake our forestry work;
Building beneficial relationships with First Nations that supports responsible forest stewardship, a stable timber supply, that in turn support the health and development of our communities;
Working with First Nations and the Province to ensure the forest sector can provide for the well-being of all our citizens, and balancing the ecological, social, and economic values of our communities’ forests;
Providing training to our staff in First Nations Culture, rights, and traditional knowledge.
